Abbey Bateson is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist and the owner and principal psychologist at Grounded Therapy Co. 

Abbey holds a Bachelor of Behavioural Science and a Bachelor of Psychological Science (Hons.) from the University of Tasmania, as well as a Master of Psychology (Educational and Developmental) from Queensland University of Technology (QUT). Abbey completed her registrar program and is endorsed as an Educational and Developmental Psychologist by the Psychology Board of Australia.

Abbey is a registered psychologist with AHPRA, a Board-Approved Supervisor, a registered provider with Medicare and a member of the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc. (AAPI).

Since beginning her career in 2016, Abbey has gained extensive experience across a range of roles, working with diverse client presentations. Her expertise spans early intervention, prevention, and mild mental health concerns, as well as more severe, complex, and chronic mental health conditions. She has worked across the lifespan with clients aged 2 - 80 years. 

Abbey’s previous positions include roles at the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CYMHS), the Yangah Adolescent Day Program (YADP, CYMHS), as a school psychologist at both primary and secondary state schools, parenting support services, and early intervention services for children under 4.

 Abbey is approachable and genuine in nature. She doesn’t take herself too seriously and brings humour into her work where appropriate. Outside of her role as a psychologist, Abbey is a mum, wife, and novice (but enthusiastic) gardener and renovator. She enjoys live music, picking flowers from her garden, exploring local markets, and sharing good food with family and friends.
